Security chiefs in Ogun State on Sunday embarked on a high-level joint operational assessment and show of force across the Ogun-Ondo border corridor as part of renewed efforts to strengthen security, sustain anti-crime operations and deepen inter-agency collaboration.

The exercise, which covered the Ogun Waterside axis, including Iwopin, Abigi and Ibiade communities, was aimed at consolidating the gains of the ongoing Operation Kosaye while maintaining sustained pressure on criminal elements operating within border communities.

The Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the operation was led by the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, alongside the Security Consultant to Governor Dapo Abiodun, retired Commissioner of Police Edward Ajogun.

Other participants included the Commander, 35 Artillery Brigade, Brig.-Gen. J.O. Onu; the Director of the Department of State Services in Ogun State, R.A. Adelakun; the State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Remilekun Ekundayo; the Commander of the Ogun State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps), retired Brig.-Gen. Alade Adedigba; and the Commander of the So-Safe Corps, Soji Ganzallo.

Chairmen of Ijebu East, Ijebu North East and Ogun Waterside Local Government Areas also participated in the security assessment.

The joint team traversed strategic communities along the Ijebu Ode-Ore Expressway, moving through J2, J3, J4, Itele, Atoyo, Agerige, Ogbere, Ibiade, Iwopin and Abigi before concluding the exercise at Ajebandele, the boundary community between Ogun and Ondo states.

According to Babaseyi, the operation enabled security agencies to identify vulnerable locations, assess the terrain, review operational requirements and fine-tune strategies for ongoing security operations across the border corridor.

He added that the exercise also strengthened intelligence sharing, enhanced operational coordination among security agencies and provided an opportunity to engage community stakeholders on the importance of public participation in crime prevention.

“The show of force was intended to reassure residents, commuters and other road users of the readiness of security agencies to protect lives and property, while maintaining a sustained security presence along the Ogun-Ondo border,” Babaseyi said.

Speaking after the exercise, Ojajuni commended the synergy among the participating security agencies, government officials and local authorities, describing inter-agency collaboration as critical to tackling emerging security challenges across the state.

The police commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining joint security operations, strengthening intelligence gathering, deploying technology-driven policing strategies and deepening collaboration with local communities.

He also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and activities, stressing that effective policing depends on timely, credible and actionable information from members of the public.

The joint operation forms part of ongoing efforts by security agencies in Ogun State to combat criminal activities along border communities and bolster public confidence in the state’s security architecture.
