The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a cattle theft syndicate, recovered six stolen cows and foiled a suspected abduction attempt in separate operations across the state.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday.
According to the statement, operatives of the Sagamu Police Division arrested Abiodun Kamilu, 35, and Adesanya Segun, 37, following a distress call reporting the theft of seven cows from a cattle yard in the Maskoli area of Sagamu.
Babaseyi said the suspects allegedly invaded the cattle yard in the early hours of July 25, 2026, and made away with the animals.
“Upon receipt of the report, operatives immediately mobilised and commenced coordinated patrols around identified exit routes. Acting on credible intelligence, the operatives intercepted suspicious vehicles along the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode Expressway.
“Their swift intervention frustrated the criminal operation, leading to the arrest of the two suspects and the recovery of six of the seven stolen cows, as well as the operational vehicle abandoned during the failed escape,” the statement read.
The police said investigations were ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate, recover the remaining cow and prosecute all those connected with the crime.
In a separate operation, Babaseyi said operatives of the command’s Safer Highway Patrol Team on July 26 foiled a suspected abduction attempt at Onigaari along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
He said the officers, who were on routine confidence-building patrol, swiftly responded after hearing gunshots in the area.
“The swift response and tactical presence of the police forced the hoodlums to abandon their criminal mission and flee into the adjoining bush.
“The victim was rescued unhurt and escorted to the Ogunmakin Police Post alongside his vehicle for safety and necessary police procedures. Normalcy was immediately restored, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects,” the statement added.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the professionalism and vigilance displayed by the officers involved in both operations.
He said the successes underscored the command’s enhanced operational capacity and unwavering commitment to responding swiftly to distress calls and combating criminal activities across the state.
Ojajuni reassured residents that the police remained in control of the security situation and would continue to strengthen intelligence gathering, visibility policing, strategic patrols and coordinated tactical operations.
He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting the police with timely and credible information, assuring them that all actionable reports would receive prompt attention.
